Enrollment requirements

  • Upon activation, you will no longer receive a paper bill unless your DTE Energy account is in shut-off status. Instead, you will receive a monthly e-mail reminder when your bill is available online.
  • Payments can be made on your eBill account using our Pay Online functionality.  Payments can be made using Visa®, MasterCard®, or a checking or savings account.  Payments can be scheduled between one to 60 days in advance.
  • Recurring payments must be set up one day before the bill due date in order to be processed on time.
  • If it is past your bill's due date, you must use the one-time payment option to ensure we receive your payment on time.
  • If you are a DTE Energy Automatic Payment Plan (APP) customer, you have two options to pay your eBill account:
    1. Continue paying through the Automatic Payment Plan but receive your bill(s) electronically. (Paying through eBill will result in double payments.)
    2. Complete the online unenrollment form to be removed from our Automatic Payment Plan and pay your bill through DTE Energy eBill.  This process will take 1-2 business days for completion.

Bill delivery and presentment

Activation - Upon activation of the electronic bill feature, you will no longer receive a paper bill unless your DTE Energy account is in shut-off status. (Customers with a bankruptcy on file with DTE Energy or who have had a previous energy bill returned by the U.S. Postal Service are not eligible for DTE Energy eBill.)

Notification - DTE Energy will use its best efforts to present all of your electronic bills promptly. In addition to notification on my.dteenergy.com, DTE Energy will send e-mail notification to the e-mail address listed on your account. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that this information is accurate. In the event you do not receive notification, it is your responsibility to log on to my.dteenergy.com and check on the delivery of new electronic bills. You are responsible for ensuring timely payment of all bills.

If e-mails are returned as undeliverable to DTE Energy, DTE Energy reserves the right to return your billing to paper. You may re-enroll at anytime after correcting any e-mail address errors.

Cancellation of electronic bill notification - DTE Energy reserves the right to cancel the presentment of electronic bills at any time. You may cancel electronic bill presentment at any time. Depending on your bill cycle, you will receive a paper bill via U.S. mail within the next 45 days. Please make sure to pay your final eBill on the due date. You can check your current account balance at my.dteenergy.com.

Non-Delivery of electronic bill(s) - You are responsible for ensuring timely payment of all bills. Copies of your last five (5) delivered bills are available at my.dteenergy.com. For bills older than six (6) months, contact DTE Energy at mydteenergy@dteenergy.com

Any discrepancies or disputes regarding the accuracy of your electronic bill summary or detail must be addressed by calling DTE Energy at 800.482.8720.

This Agreement does not alter your liability or obligations that currently exist between you and DTE Energy concerning your utility usage, and other products and services.

Bill payment options

Your eBill can be paid in one of two ways:

  1. You may make one-time payments using a Visa® or MasterCard® credit or debit card, or a checking or savings account. Payments can be scheduled to post to your DTE Energy account as early as the next business day or up to 60 days in advance. Scheduled payments can be made and canceled up to one day before the payment due date.
  2. You may set up recurring payments using a Visa® or MasterCard® credit or debit card, a checking account or a savings account. Payments will be processed on your bill due date. Recurring payment plans must be set up one day before your due date in order to be applied to your energy account on the due date.  DTE Energy accounts classified as commercial accounts are currently not eligible for credit or debit card payments.  Commercial customers may use checking, savings or some alternative means to pay your DTE Energy bill.

Payments may be presented to your bank and/or your credit card company as early as 3 a.m. on your due date.  It is  your responsibility to ensure funds are available for payment.

Payment authorization and payment remittance

When DTE Energy receives a Payment Instruction, you authorize the Service to debit your Payment Account and remit funds on your behalf. You certify that any Payment Account you add to your payment methods is an account from which you are authorized to make payments, and any payment you make using DTE Energy eBill will debit/charge a Payment Account that you are legally authorized to use. You also authorize DTE Energy to credit your Payment Account for payments returned by the United States Postal Service.

Using a payment method that you are not authorized to use may result in termination of your online account and legal proceedings.

DTE Energy will use its best efforts to make all your payments properly. However, DTE Energy shall incur no liability and any Service Guarantee shall be void if DTE Energy is unable to complete any payments initiated by you because of the existence of any one or more of the following circumstances:

  • If your Payment Account does not contain sufficient funds to complete the transaction or the transaction would exceed the credit limit of your overdraft account.
  • The payment processing center is not working properly and you know or have been advised by DTE Energy about the malfunction before you execute the transaction;
  • You have not provided DTE Energy with the correct Payment Account information, or the correct name, address, and phone number; and/or,
  • Circumstances beyond control of DTE Energy (such as, but not limited to, fire, flood, or interference from an outside force) prevent the proper execution of the transaction and DTE Energy has taken reasonable precautions to avoid those circumstances.
  • Provided none of the foregoing exceptions are applicable, if DTE Energy causes an incorrect amount of funds to be removed from your Payment Account, DTE Energy shall be responsible for returning the improperly transferred funds to your Payment Account, and, if applicable, for any late payment related charges applied to your DTE Energy account.

Service termination, cancellation or suspension

In the event you wish to cancel DTE Energy eBill, you may do so by visiting our Web site. Unless canceled, all scheduled payments will be processed even if your account is no longer enrolled in eBill. DTE Energy may terminate or cancel your eBill service at any time. Neither termination nor suspension shall affect your liability or obligations under this Agreement.

If you dispute a Bill Payment made from a Payment Account that is a credit card account, you acknowledge that such dispute (including, but not limited to, chargeback or fraud) must be taken up with your credit card company; DTE Energy is not responsible for any research or resolution of such credit card payment disputes. You acknowledge and agree that these Terms set forth are the complete and exclusive statement of the Services to be provided, and these Terms supersede any proposal or prior agreement, oral or written, and any other communications between you and DTE Energy relating to the subject matter of this Agreement. Also, please contact your financial institution to report any unauthorized financial transactions.

Alterations and amendments

The applicable fees and service charges may be altered or amended by DTE Energy from time to time. In such event, the Service shall provide notice to you. Any use of this service after DTE Energy provides you a notice of change will constitute your agreement to such change(s). Further, DTE Energy may, from time to time, revise or update the applications, services, and/or related material, which may render all such prior versions obsolete.

These terms set forth DTE Energy's entire liability and your exclusive remedy. In no event shall DTE Energy be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or exemplary damages, including lost profits even if advised of the possibility thereof, arising in any way out of the installation, use, or maintenance of the equipment, software, and/or the service. I have read and understand the foregoing agreement and agree to be bound by all its terms.
