MichCon Gas Construction Services

If your commercial business in MichCon's service territory consumes less than 100,000 Ccf (hundred cubic feet) of natural gas per year (typically restaurants, convenience stores, gas stations, retail buildings, small office buildings, etc.), MichCon's Gas Service Planning Group can assist you in providing natural gas service to your facility.

Please have the following information available when you contact us:

• For new building construction:
  • When do you plan to begin construction? (The building walls need to be constructed before we can install the gas service line and metering.)
  • What is your anticipated need date for gas service?
  • What equipment will operate on natural gas and what are the BTU requirements? The Gas Load Worksheet* (pdf) will help you collect that information.
  • Will your equipment require elevated pressure (greater than 0.25 psig)?
  • Will you require temporary gas service for construction heat?
  • We will need an approved engineering site plan of the facility, indicating where the gas meter will be located.
• For adding gas equipment (may require a larger meter or an increase in gas pressure):
  • When are you adding the new equipment?
  • What equipment will operate on natural gas and what are the BTU requirements? The Gas Load Worksheet* (pdf) will help you collect that information.
  • Will the new equipment require elevated pressure delivery (greater than 0.25 psig)?

Elevated Pressure Requests

Does your commercial business have equipment that requires gas pressure in excess of our normal delivery pressure?

MichCon's standard delivery pressure to all customers is seven-inch water column (W.C.) or 0.25 psig. Customers may request pressure in excess of the standard delivery pressure due to equipment requirements, but before MichCon can grant your request, we need the following information in writing:

1. The requested gas delivery pressure.
2. The reason for the request. Please provide a copy of the equipment specifications.
3. The step-down regulators that will be installed on all equipment.

When you are ready to begin construction or install new equipment, contact the Gas Service Planning Group with your request.

Other Useful Information

• Your construction project may require construction heat during the winter season to expedite completion. We can provide a quote for temporary gas service for your construction heating needs.
